Substance Use Prevention and Intervention
As is the case in many communities across the country, Massachusetts communities have been impacted by the opioid crisis. Substance misuse is both a chronic disease for individuals, and a public health issue that impacts communities. Health department staff are increasingly playing a leadership role in combating the opioid epidemic on the local level.
Vaping is another issue that has reached epidemic levels. Local public health staff need to be better equipped with resources to adequately respond to both the opioid and the vaping epidemics that are permeating our communities.
This chapter provides information on substances that often lead to misuse and abuse, as well as potential funding opportunities to address them.
